"The work Handheld produces is very strong; imaginative, inventive and child-centred." (Joe Sumsion, Director, Dukes)Handheld Theatre is a fusion of Vanessa Card and Fredrik Holm. They met in Lancaster in 2007. Fredrik had moved to England from Sweden and Vanessa from Manchester. They were both used to produce high quality work for others; Vanessa as an artist and illustrator and Fredrik as a musician and conductor. They have both worked with theatre and music theatre, and dreamed about producing work for themselves for once. The outcome is Handheld Theatre.
Vanessa Card BA (Hons) has made props, puppets and masks for established theatres for many years. She is an educated illustrator and has worked for many years producing detailed and textural work for most of the major book publishers, and a wide range of commercial advertising agencies and designers.
Fredrik Holm M(mus) has worked as a professional musician for the last 15 years, mostly in England, Sweden and Denmark. He moved to England in 2005, where he (besides Handheld Theatre) composes music, conducts choirs and orchestras, organizes personal development courses, records CD's and arranges concerts.
